Here's how you know it's summer.

Yesterday we had a burst of hot weather, jumping up 15 degrees from the day before in a matter of hours.  It was humid and sticky, and I needed to water all of the newly stocked dirt areas I'd worked so hard on over the past few days.  We pulled out the sprinkler and got it set up.

Then Sophie disappeared, coming out of the house without her shirt on and swimsuit in hand.  I talked her into changing in the garage, catching Martin out of the corner of my eye running like a flash.  And just like that, it was summertime.

Martin was in such a hurry that he put his swimsuit on backwards and over his underwear, not even bothering to take off his socks.

Which of course means this.

And because he's five and a boy, there was some of this.

Sophie was so happy running through the water, chasing Martin, glad that it was warm enough to wear her swimsuit outside and not over her clothes like she did all winter.

Summer pleasures are so simple.  Nothing but a sprinkler followed by a little laundry.
