Brusha Brusha Brusha

Sophie went to the dentist last week for her first checkup.  She did great, following directions and sitting still, even keeping her mouth open for a cleaning.  I knew that she'd do well, but I was kind of worried about cavities.  Here she is, not smiling because that might expose her teeth, and you know - we were at the DENTIST.

Brushing her teeth is a real chore, one that we accomplish by pretending that she's a cat (side note: she doesn't know that most cats probably don't brush their teeth).  And she has a terrible sweet tooth.  Every day she asks if she can have ice cream for breakfast, she asks for a sucker every time we go into a store, and I could probably talk her into shingling the roof if I paid her in Starburst.

So far, we're lucky.  No cavities, and since she's a rule follower by nature, she's brushing for two minutes each morning just like the dental hygienist told her she needed to do.

Since it was her first visit, the kids had their teeth cleaned one by one so that we could keep everything under control.  But it took almost TWO HOURS and that is just a really long time for everyone to sit so still in a tiny little room.  Next time, we'll try simultaneous cleaning.  That sounds MUCH more exciting than it is, don't you think?

She looks so cute, love her outfit for the dentist appointment. Glad there were no cavities, that seems to change the response to the next visit!

She looks like she's taking it seriously. I like that. I remember when I had my first two (and only) cavities. My parents were in Florida and I was maybe 7 or 8? I remember being so worried about how disappointed they'd be! Thank god for those clear sealants they came up with in the 80's after that!
