The first day of 34, Part One
I had a terrific birthday yesterday. Having planned everything around food, I was not one bit disappointed. As we do for all birthdays, we started out with root beer floats for breakfast. Don't a look just a little bit angelic?

Then, after going out for coffee with Nicole and Louise, I finally made my way out to work. Only to discover that instead of working, we would have cake. Delicious ice cream cake.

Later that night as we prepared for dinner, the kids provided pre-food entertainment.
We had a terrific dinner - serving crab legs for the first time to the kids. Sophie declared them gross, and Martin ate half of the legs I'd made. He also was in charge of setting the table, which describes the tool selection at each setting.

Marty's Aunt Louise spared me from having to bake a cake by bringing one over in the morning. So, after we were done with dinner, Sophie and Martin put every candle in the house on the cake - still less than the number required to match my age.

It was a lot of candles for the cake, so Martin and Sophie thought they better blow them out before our house started on fire. This photo was staged to simulate what it might have looked like if we'd blown them out together.

While we were finishing dinner, Martin snuck away and created a present for me by hanging art around the house with black electrical tape. There is one in the hallway, another behind the door and next to the laundry basket, a third stuck to the side of my dresser. I could hear him working on the project, telling Sophie to be careful because "art is important". Guess I've been doing my job after all. He may think that only women can bake cakes, but he also knows the importance of art in everyday life.

And somehow, I think he's been influenced by Edvard Munch because I'm pretty sure he's reenacting The Scream right there in the middle panel. I've certainly heard the audio interpretation plenty of times, just never witnessed the visual portion.
