Happy birthday to ya
The other day at the office during the late-afternoon lull I decided to put on some music to liven up the afternoon. Digging into the archives of my youth, I pulled out my Wham! CD. As the music queued up, I remarked to my officemate that she was probably kinda young when that album came out, like in first grade or something. "What year?" she asked. Flipping to the back cover of my CD for the answer, "1984" I told her. "Oh. I was one" she said. In that instant, I was old. I was quiet for awhile, sort of ruminating in my oldness, but then it occurred to me - sure, I was older but that's not such a big deal. At least I got to see George Michael when he was a hottie, and not in his current sorta-creepy stage. And Andrew Ridgely, I know who he is too, and that made being old enough at that time feel sort of worthwhile.
Plus, whenever I am feeling a bit old, I always like to remind myself that compared to Marty, I'm a baby. Which brings me to my point - Marty is even older today than he was yesterday. Happy Birthday Marty!
On this very special day, don't spend your time wallowing in your age (38! - kaCHOW!!). Instead, look at all of the accomplishments you've managed in all your years of living. You have a really awesome wife (that's me), a nice place to work, a house that we love living in, and your very best accomplishment - our kids. They adore you, love spending time with you, and are like you in a lot of ways.
So, on this day, let's celebrate your accomplishments. To do this, we made you a little video that I think will make you very proud. Enjoy, and happy birthday old man.
