DIY
This weekend Marty and I shipped the kids off to parts unknown (okay, to Grandma Jane/Grandpa Pack and to GrandmaLou's houses) and prepared to whip through home projects. After a year of living in a state of semi-neglect in a house that is nearing forty years old, we're now faced with boatloads of projects that need attention. Some of them need immediate attention, and some can wait like a week or two.
We had a bit of a late start on Saturday, so I started with an inside project as I waited for Marty to return home. I picked a project that I thought would take only a few hours, and decided to remove the wallpaper from the bathroom to prepare it for the painter who is scheduled for our house sometime in May. I have some experience removing wallpaper (two rooms at our old house, two rooms in this house) and the amount of work seems to vary based on the treasures you'll find underneath. If it is vinyl wallpaper on top of a previously painted wall, piece of cake. If it is three layers of wallpaper on top of drywall, a small bathroom can take you ten hours to complete. TEN HOURS!
The kids returned on Sunday evening after having had a great time at the grandparents homes. The kids looked tired, and so did our parents. I can almost guarantee that the adults who returned to their homes went to bed MUCH earlier than our kids did - Sophie breaking her personal best and falling asleep at 11:20PM.
Martin, as full of energy as ever, wrote a song for me last night. I'm pleased to say that I think he has some musical talent, and perhaps he has inherited my love of Cajun and Zydeco accordion music. He seems to be a natural.
