Nelson Ladies Auxiliary: April 2007 Meeting Minutes

After days of contemplation (and finally downloading my photos), I'm finally ready for the Nelson Ladies Auxiliary: April 2007 Meeting Minutes.

We started out with dinner at Pazzaluna and had excellent food.  After dinner, we sweet-talked (and tipped) the valet into giving us his cell phone number so that we could call him as we were leaving the concert and have our car ready.  This was a bit weird since the last guy who gave me his phone number was Marty, but it was very convenient.

We all wore black, which is the only appropriate thing to wear to a concert, but also made us look a bit like we belonged in the Cash Family.  We had excellent seats at the concert and my sister-in-law Chris spent much of the concert trying to get Rod's attention.  She was sure that if he could just hear her yelling "Hi Rod!" that it would catch his attention and he'd come over, or at least wave back.

It was a slightly older crowd than I'm used to seeing at a concert, and a lot of the people spent the whole concert sitting.  Apparently the leaders of this movement were seated directly behind us, and they made it immediately known that they did not want us to stand or dance.  "Sit Down!" they shouted.  My sister-in-law Chris turned around and sweetly said "We're at a concert, and we're just having some fun," then sat down.  A few songs later, inspired by the groove, Chris stood again to boogie.  This time, the Leader of the Sitters tapped her on the shoulder and told her to sit, saying that they couldn't see.  I ducked my head, hoping that they would just leave us alone.  They didn't know who they were dealing with.  Chris is the woman I'd call if I needed backup in a bar fight.  She's the one, who after a few drinks, may tell you about her days as an MP.  She's not the one you tell to sit down, anywhere.  They must have sensed this, and after the tap on the shoulder, they retired their cause and let the standing and dancing pass without further comment.

I took about 100 photos of Rod because for some reason, I kept thinking that each moment would provide the perfect concert shot.  The result is much like what happens when you review the photos from the first week of a baby's life - a whole lot of shots with not a lot of action.

Next Meeting: May, cocktail party in Minneapolis
