We got it

We have been extraordinarily lucky when it comes to illnesses.  We've had our fair share of ear and respiratory infections with Martin, but those have improved greatly with age, staying out of day care, and the relocation of our pets.  Aside from dairy allergy-induced eczema, Sophie's health has been fantastic.  We had a low grade cold/funk that ran through our house for a few months this winter, but luckily for us, it never really turned into much.

Yesterday afternoon Martin told me that his tummy hurt.  In the next breath he said "I can't take it anymore" and before I could move him twelve inches to the toilet, he threw up everywhere.  In the space of twenty seconds, he went from just fine to standing over a toilet in a bathroom covered in barf.  As I cleaned up that bathroom, I moved him to another bathroom where he spent the next fifteen minutes alternating between throwing up, sitting on the toilet, almost throwing up, and back on the toilet again.

Now, I come from a family where we rarely throw up.  I can only remember one time when I REALLY threw up as a kid (sorry I barfed on those hand-written Christmas cards, mom).  I can, of course, remember times when I threw up as an adult but that was more like "why oh WHY did I go to Liquor Lyle's for 2-for-1's AGAIN" and not "my stomach, she's got a life of her own and she HATES it" kind of barf.

Martin seems to be recovering nicely.  Within an hour of his illness, he was back to causing trouble and running around.  I fed him toast, crackers, an apple, a banana and buttered noodles (not all at once, of course).  And today, I let him have diet 7-up for breakfast.  With that kind of a diet, I'd be willing to bet he's going to feel "a little sick" every morning.
