Part fashionista, part nudist

On Friday the kids and I picked up Marty and took him out for lunch.  The town in which we work is pretty small and only has one place to eat.  The kind of place that is cafe by day, small town bar by night.  They have good sandwiches, daily specials that always include some kind of gravy, and an assortment of deep fried sides.  When I told the kids that we were going out for lunch, they both prepared like we were really hitting the town.  Martin changed out of sweatpants and put on jeans so that they'd "go" with his cowboy boots - a young boys idea of fancy.  Once Sophie spied his boots, she decided that she'd wear her boots as well.  This meant changing her shirt and pants, picking out a jacket and locating her purse.  Because she's two, and a gal has to have a handbag to lunch.

Later that day I was talking to Sevda on the phone and we were laughing about how funny this was, especially considering my lack of fashion sense.  Where did she get it?  What made her think that she needed to accessorize?  And match?  Who taught her that?  Just then, Sophie ran past me, still dressed from our lunch date.  Well, partially dressed.  She'd combined her new first love - fashion, with her new second love - nudity.

So, here's to hoping that this is a passing phase (the nudity) and just a general appreciation (the desire for being well-dressed),  and not foreshadowing of the combination (Paris Hilton).

On the table: Honey mustard glazed salmon fillets, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans
