Wet butt weekend
We returned from a weekend at my parents with sore arms, happy kids, and shorts that have finally dried. Despite constant outfit changes and multiple loads of laundry, our shorts and swimsuits didn't have a chance to stay dry all weekend. We had loads of squirt gun fights, went on boat rides, swam, waterskied, kneeboarded, wakeboarded, went tubing, played in a little pool, and launched water balloons at each other. And that was just Saturday.
As predicted, the full arsenal of squirt guns were on hand. Not only did we have the usual load, but I bought more, my mom and dad picked up some extras, and Ryan and Carrie brought some from South Dakota. We were like a one-family Watergun Militia. Here's my dad and Martin "shooting trap" with bubbles and the supersoaker.

On Saturday, Martin decided that he was ready to try tubing. My brother, Ryan, took him out for his maiden run. About halfway around the lake, Martin must have thought he had it down and decided to try to stand up on the tube.

Sophie didn't try anything behind the boat, but loved the boat ride and liked walking around on shore like a bathing beauty.

Mom and dad added another swing to the yard and that kept Sophie busy much of the weekend. Martin whipped her around like a top, luckily the safety strap prevented her from flying out and rolling down the hill.

On Sunday, Martin decided that he was ready to try waterskiing. He and Ryan each put on a pair of skis, with Martin between Ryan's legs. As the boat pulled them up out of the water, Martin dropped his skis (not intentionally) and went barefooting his first time up. I bet Ryan's legs are pretty tired from holding Martin in place all the way around the lake.

I tried kneeboarding and felt like a champ just being able to get up and jump the wake, even though I couldn't quite make the handoff on a 360 anymore. We'll see if I'm able to move my arms tomorrow. Right now, it's not looking good.

What great pictures! What a great brother and uncle, the kids must be crazy about him.

You let Martin do this!!?? He's a very brave mini-man. I know that Ryan is a professional but good lord! You have a dare devil on your hands. Glad to see Sweet Sophie is a bathing beauty.

I'm so impressed w/ Martin! What a dare devil! Matthew and I were just discussing how old our little girl will be when we start her water skiing. Looks like Ryan and Martin found a perfect way to start!
