The Left and Right meet in Wayzata

Last night, two monumental events took place.

1)  Both of the kids were fast asleep by 8:30 PM

and

2) I attended a Republican fundraiser

Check us out, it's a Democrat sandwich.  Left on the left, Right in the middle, and Middle on the right.  Please note, I went a little incognito last night using my stage name"Jeannie".

All in all, it was an interesting event.  It was fun to be there with both sides of my family (even though Marty wasn't able to make it), it was nice to see people I hadn't seen in awhile (hi George), and good to meet some new people as well.  Since the Governor arrived kind of late in the event, and he spoke for quite awhile, I didn't get to really visit with him very much.  I thought about cornering him for a moment to talk to him about my views on gay marriage and to ask if he remembered Mary Deelsnyder from his campaign, but then I would have had to interrupt he and my mom singing the South St. Paul High School rouser.  And really, who wants to interrupt a spontaneous show of school spirit?

The Governor is a good speaker and had quite a few interesting points.  Overall I'd say that I can understand many of his viewpoints, but in most cases fall short of agreeing with him.  For example, when he said that he thinks that parents who show good family values by participating in their kids lives can make the biggest impact on their academic success I'd have to agree.  But, I would also add that the gender of the parents wouldn't make a difference.

And when he said that the Republican party was making strides in the under 45 crowd, I really wanted to ask him to do an impromptu poll of the under 45's in attendance.  I'm confident that it would have been 100% Democratic at this event.

Rest assured all of my Democrat friends, I am still on the team.

It was good to see you there as well. As Jeff Foxworthy would say... if you attend a Republican fund raiser, you just might be a Republican.

I found it very interesting that you placed your name tag on your left side and your mother placed hers on her right side. Does the placement of a nametag reflect the persons political bias?

Ahhh, dad. I was beginning to wonder if you had decided to stop commenting. Glad to see you back.

And yes, nametag placement must be a subliminal political message.
