Taking stock

It's 9:45PM and both kids are asleep - a monumental event worth noting.  I can see that there are at least two loads of laundry stacked up and I know that there is one in the washing machine and one in the dryer.  But since both kids are asleep early, I feel like lounging around like a lady of leisure.  For most of my life I've read at least one book a week, usually more.  But since Sophie was born, I've hardly read a thing.  Luckily, my mom and several of my friends are voracious readers, so I have quite a stack of books that are ready to go.  Here's what's in the queue (otherwise known as my nightstand):

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro (sent by Sevda)
Sleep Toward Heaven by Amanda Eyre Ward (recommended by Sevda and my mom)
The Bastard on the Couch by Daniel Jones (I gave this to Marty to celebrate the birth of our second child)
Sippy Cups are Not For Chardonnay by Stephanie Wilder-Taylor (recommended by my mom)
Saint Bernadette Soubirous by Francis Trochu (taken from the stack of old books that came with our house)
Autobiography of a Fat Bride by Laurie Notaro (recommended by Mary Deelsnyder)
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
Night by Elie Wiesel (recommended by Oprah)
Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk (sent by Sevda)
Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (read by everyone on the last flight we were on)
The Godfather by Mario Puzo (published by Marty's Aunt's husband)
Deception Point by Dan Brown
Dakota: A Spiritual Geography by Kathleen Norris (sent by Kathy)
The Dog Who Wouldn't Be by Farley Mowat (recommended by my dad)

Not like I'm going to exhaust this pile anytime soon, but anything I should add to the stack?

I think you are being too hard on yourself. I am SURE you read more than one book a week - Goodnight Moon, The Stinky Cheese Man, Falling for Rapunzel. They may only be 20 pages long, but hey, they count. When I used to go on business trips, I think I looked more forward to the fact that I could read than to the actual trip. Oh, and if you haven't read East of Eden, add that to your list.
