My pal Skip

We had a very eventful day yesterday.  We started out at Form-A-Feed to check out the construction equipment and progress on the new plant.  Martin was thrilled to climb on the equipment and disappointed that someone had thought to lock up the cockpit (or whatever the place you'd sit is called on an excavator).

We spent the rest of the day outside and running around.  Here's what I learned:

Martin has a firm grasp of the rules.  When we were getting ready to go for a walk to the park, we reviewed the rules.  Here are the rules Martin came up with:
1.  No yelling (after an afternoon of shouting I was happy to hear this one).
2.  No hitting (just a good, general rule).
3.  Stay on the curb.
4.  No pick grassin' (this one took me awhile to figure out, but once I did, I know that all of the neighbors will be glad that Martin will stop taking fistfuls of their grass each time we pass).

Martin has an active imagination.  When we got to the park, there were two five year-old boys playing on the jungle gym.  I wasn't sure if he'd be a little shy since they were older, or if he'd jump right in.  He told Sophie and me to try the slide, then ran over to the boys.  I heard him ask, "What's your name?"  They boys gave their names and asked Martin for his name.  I saw him tilt his head back a little and heard him say "Skip".  Skip?  His name is Skip?  Skip, Sophie and I had a good time at the playground until a neighborhood dog knocked Sophie over with his tail then proceeded to barf all over the playground.  Skip agreed that it was gross, and we started out for home.

Has he watched the movie "My Dog Skip"? Where in the world did skip come from! I always wanted my name to be Mary when I was little, Martin picked something a little more fun.

No way, "My Dog Skip" is one of the saddest movies on earth. Maybe someday when we're feeling really sad we'll watch that one, followed by "Where the Red Fern Grows" and "Old Yeller".

When I was little, I wanted to change my name to Nellie...inspired by Nellie Oleson of course.
