Think big, order bigger

Four years ago this week Marty and I were on Wave I of our honeymoon.  We flew to Florida, picked up Marty's grandpa's car and drove it home.  We had a week to make the trip.  On day five, we were still in Georgia.  Thinking back, I couldn't remember why we spent so much time making such little headway.  Then, today, I ran across these pictures and now I know the reason.  Marty was too full to drive, and I hate driving for more than about two hours.

The first night of our trip, Marty ordered this steak at Shula's Steak House.  It was by far the biggest slab of steak I've ever seen.  It was bigger than a roast.  In my memory, I want to say that it was 48 oz.  Is that even possible?  Anyway, it made us both kind of sick just looking at it.  We had to rest for a day after that meal.


I think it was two nights later that we ate at The Crab Shack on Tybee Island outside of Savannah, GA.  We ordered a giant platter of seafood that was placed on a stand on the table.  Under the stand, there is a hole in the table that is placed over a trash can.  Quite a good invention, really.  We could barely drive back to our hotel after this meal.


We then drove out of our way to go to Mamie's Biscuits because I'd heard about it from Jane & Michael Stern on The Splendid Table.  It sounded delicious, and was better than we'd expected.  I ordered one of the daily specials, and Marty filled an entire cafeteria tray and part of mine with several daily specials and extra sides.

So, after several days of ordering like there were six of us instead of just two and waiting until our pants fit again, we had to haul our butts back to MN in a hurry.  We only stopped one night and stayed in some toilet in Indiana.

Lesson learned:  Next time, we'll need two weeks to make a drive like that.
