Revelations

This entry could just as easily be titled, "How could I have missed that?" or "Does everyone know that but me?".  Although I like to think of myself as a fairly well-rounded person, and am a tough Trivial Pursuit opponent, I have missed a few obvious pieces of info in my day.  I'm sure there are more, but here are a few for you to consider:

Revelation #1: The movie Strange Brew is based on Hamlet.
When we were growing up, we rented Strange Brew probably more than other single family on earth.  We could repeat any line, and we thought we were hilarious.  At some point in high school, we read Hamlet in English class, and I immediately recognized the story - Elsinore Castle/Elsinore Brewery, Rosencrantz became the hockey player Rosey LaRose, and the background storyline was exactly the same.  Of course, there are a lot more "take off, eh's" and "hosers" in Strange Brew...but still.  As if my argument isn't convincing enough, here's more proof.

Revelation #2: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star... ABC's...Baa Baa Black Sheep all share the same tune.
One day I was singing Twinkle, Twinkle to Sophie and it hit me.  It is the same tune as the ABC's.  "How can that be?" I thought.  ABC's is it's very own song, I mean, it's the ABC's.  Awhile later, I sheepishly mentioned this discovery to someone, sort of embarassed that it took me 32 years to figure it out and they said "Yeah, Baa Baa Black Sheep too."  Double-dumb-whammy.  I hadn't even thought of that one.  Proof.

Revelation #3: In the movie Waiting for Guffman, Corky St. Clair's voice sounds exactly like Mr. Rogers.
If it's been awhile since you've heard Mr. Rogers' voice, listen to last week's episode of "This American Life" for an interview with the real Mr. Rogers.  Then go out and watch Waiting for Guffman and prepare to be dumbfounded.  It's uncanny.  PLUS - did you know that Christopher Guest (Corky) is married to Jamie Lee Curtis?  How could he possibly sit through the screening of any of her movies and pretend she was funny?  Maybe this one should be split into two revelations for that very reason.
