Nelson means music
Like other Nelson's before us, there seems to be music in our blood. You may remember the very famous Nelson family that produced three (or at least two, three might be questionable) generations of musicians and entertainers:
Ozzie & Harriet Nelson

Ricky Nelson

The Nelson Brothers (Gunnar & Matthew)

Here's a picture of The Nelson Brothers on a recent tour stop in Columbia Heights, MN (sorry, when did Columbia Heights become a tour stop for anyone? What else would they do there, stop at the Cub Foods where Jerry used to work for a tour of his old stomping grounds?)
Recently, my Nelson family has been exploring our own musical talents. Marty and I both have musical instruments around the house, although neither of us are "musicians". As we pulled out some of our instruments to show the kids, I uncovered some music from Marty's diverse repertoire:

Martin showed a real talent for the trumpet - he understood how to spit (not the technical term) properly into the mouthpiece, isn't afraid of spit (like his mother), and liked to test his chops while kicking up his legs:

Sophie liked the accordion and it's fancy case:

And, we were all very impressed with Marty's ability to still play pep band songs:

Not bad for a guy who probably hasn't played much since Gunnar & Matthew were touring for real.

With a few minutes of practice on the accordian, I believe Martin and Sophie could match their mothers expertice from a musical persective.

At this point, they're already there. I can't even play "my song" anymore. I'm sure you'll all be sad to see "Camptown Races" go by the wayside.

Editorial correction: Jerry worked at Rainbow Foods. And seriously -- WHERE in Columbia Heights was Nelson playing? I hope our faces are aging better than theirs are. Yikes.

They played at a place called Star Central. Where is that? In the parking lot of Rainbow?
